CHOOSE Act

Huntsville Christian Academy is certified by the Alabama Department of Revenue as an Education Service Provider (ESP). Qualifying students may spend up to $7,000 from their Education Spending Account at our school for tuition and approved fees.

What is the CHOOSE Act?

Beginning with the 2025-26 school year, the CHOOSE Act established a school choice program that provides refundable income tax credits to eligible families through Education Savings Accounts (ESAs). These funds can be used to cover qualifying educational expenses for K–12 students in Alabama.

For the 2025–2026 and 2026–2027 school years, families must have an adjusted gross income (AGI) not exceeding 300% of the federal poverty level (e.g., approximately $93,600 for a family of four in 2024).

Beginning in 2027-28, there will be no income requirement and the law’s intent is to make the program universally available to Alabama residents. There is some concern that the program is not sufficiently funded to cover every family that may apply for the 2027-28 school year. There is speculation that families who are already receiving CHOOSE Act funds in the first two years will be allocated funds in the 2027-28 school year and any remaining funds would be allocated based on household income.

It is important to convey to your state legislators and to your candidate of choice for the upcoming governor’s race that CHOOSE Act should be fully funded for all families wishing to take advantage of this program, regardless of household income.

The deadline for the 2025-26 school year has passed. For the 2026-27 school year, please check the official CHOOSE Act website for application and deadline information.

The CHOOSE Act provides $7,000 per student which may be applied to our tuition and registration fees. Because our tuition and registration fees exceed $7,000, there is a balance. If you are unable to afford to pay the balance, additional financial aid may be available.

Tuition is non-refundable. Enrolling at HCA is a commitment to attend school through the end of the school year. Though we understand some families must relocate mid-year for work or have other extenuating circumstances, we are unable to entertain requests for refunds.

Absolutely! HCA is happy to help answer any questions and we are also willing to help families with the application process. Feel free to contact us for assistance.
